I recently did a quite launch of a new site venture I've taken on. Swing over to www.CynicalSide.com for a look. Basically it's a Gaming/Movies/TV/Music/Techie-Stuff board where we (myself and a variety of different friends) can post to talk about whatever's on our minds. There's already a coupld posts up there so go and take a look. Also, it will be a Podcast series as well but it's been tough to coordinate schedules over the holiday's so we'll probably start off with the begining of the new year.

2 Weeks without a post, EEEK….

Wow, it looks like I’ve gone for around 2 weeks without posting anything. I guess I’ve been busier than I thought. With all the stuff that’s been going on I seemed to have neglected the site and for that I’m sorry.

Where are things at:
- The book has it’s first drafts, for all chapters, handed in so I may have a little breathing room now before chapter revisions kick-in. I should be getting some more info from the publisher with some public links for information. When that happens I’ll be sure to keep you all informed.
- Darkfalz Radio. As mentioned in other posts this took a back seat because of the other commitments. I’ve gotten the recorder in and even lined up a 1st-seat co-host (more on that later) so I’m just finishing up with who else to have on for the premiere episode and some basic outlines/topics. If all goes well I’ll get this baby up and running soon (yeah, I know I’ve said that before).
- Personal life. The wedding plans are pretty solid now and the house is settled into. We’ve still got work to do on these things but it should be diminishing as time goes on.
- MMO. Ok, yeah… I’m still an addicted to LOTRO, doubt that will change too soon but I have been trying to limit the time spent on it.

Anyways, that’s where I’m at right now. I’ll try to keep up with the site more and see what can be done, who knows I’ll even try to post more “useful” stuff for you. Maybe even a programming tip/trick or two :}

New Digital Recorder - On Order

15. April 2009 - Curt C

In preperation for my, finally, getting Darkfalz Radio launched I decided that the recording equipment that I was trying to use was simply insufficient. Trying to get the multiple inputs simply didn't work right. With that in mind I did a little research and found that the Zoom H2 Digital Recorder (http://tinyurl.com/cszf48) seems like a great starter device. The multiple inputs and easy to use interface (based on the reviews) seemed like a great option. With that I took the hit and ordered one. It should be here sometime soon and at that point I'll gather the people and see about getting Episode 1 up on the site.

I'll keep you all informed on the recorder and the broadcast.

Looking for custom music

Hey all. I'm still piecing together the stuff for Darkfalz Radio and could really use a nice clip/tune for an opening track. I can't pay anyone but will definitely give you some advertisement. If you are interested feel free to shoot me a line and we'll see what can be done.

Slight Delay for Episode 1

Well, my initial plans for recording Episode 1 have meet with difficulties. While I am able to record fine with a single input (one mic) I have yet found a decent way to record multiple inputs for the group recordings. As such I'm still working out the technical pieces for the first, group, recording. With that in mind I may put up a short, solo episode later this week. There are a couple topics I want to cover plus it will be a chance for me to try out some other pieces/etc...

Hopefully something will be up before the week is out.

Finalizing Darkfalz Radio - Episode 1

26. January 2009 - Curt C

I ran into a few issues with all the side aspects of Podcasting. In particular the RSS feed pieces. I think I have all the bugs worked out with one exception but that should be done this week. I am also finalizing the outline for recording too so I should have that recorded in the next couple days. With all fingers crossed Episode 1 will be up before the end of the week. Keep your eye on http://darkfalz.com/Radio/ for updates.

Darkfalz Radio - Looking for topics

21. January 2009 - Curt C

I've finally got most of the pieces together for putting the podcast up. I'll be doing a pure audio one to start with but I do have an HD video recorder on the way (hehehe). But... to the point... I've got a rough idea of what I'll be covering in the first broadcast but I am looking for additional topic suggestions. I'm not going to list out my format yet (so I don't bias the suggestions) but if you haven't followed my blog (or past blogs) here is a quick rundown of "me" and what I am most interested in.

First and formost I am a techno-dweeb. I love technology and all that it entails. I love to talk about what is and what could be. Speculating is 90% of the fun of it sometimes. Secondly, I'm a programmer (mostly web, specifically .Net) but I'm also a gamer (mostly PC but do have and love my 360). I've been in computers since the 80's and my TI99-4a and Atari 800XL.

Anyways, please feel free to post your suggestions (or send them to me directly at darkfalz@darkfalz.com) and I'll see what I can do to accomodate. Also, if you got techno-dweeb questions, comments or even random thoughts, feel free to send them. If you send them to me as MP3s I may even play them on the air and answer you directly.

As soon as the podcast is put together I'll put up the links to it. It will definitely be available directly via RSS and I'll see about getting it up on iTunes and Zune Marketplace (did I mention I LOVE my Zune?) as soon as possible afterwards.

Podcasting 101 - What equipment to use?

19. January 2009 - Curt C

Ok, I've been working on setting up the podcast for about a week now. I've figured out the RSS and that piece of it (well, somewhat). Thanks to all those who sent me the information on it. The links were great. Now though I need a little more help. I'm using Audacity to record my files but I'm noticing that my microphone is crap. Heck, the one builtin to my laptop is better than my external mic. This leads me to ask... what's a good mic to get? I'm assuming I need one that's gonna be able to be plugged into my machine and actually be heard. Does that mean it needs to be powered? Also,...I need one pretty cheap. This is a first run at this stuff and I don't want to stick any major money into it until I know its all going to work. Thanks all.

Podcasting 101 - Who's got the skinny?

10. January 2009 - Curt C

I've recently (in the last few months) really got in to the audio podcasting world. I've really found that I spend most of my day with headphones on, listening to the great stuff that's out there. With the 1up devistation and other great podcasts "going away" I've started thinking about doing my own. I'd probably cover some stuff on gaming, programming and general geek-ness but what I really need now is a good tutorial on how to get started. Does anyone have a good link or instructions on all the pieces needed? Is it really as simple as putting an MP3 into an RSS feed?
